Case Study

Powering Ventia's Project

Ventia’s team of high-voltage linemen are all too familiar with the sound of a diesel generator. This team spends significant time in remote areas rewiring high-voltage powerlines and their site offices rely on generators for power. On this project, Portacom were able, through generator partner Aggreko, to power the site with a generator/battery package. Not only is the team now spared the constant drone of a generator, Ventia also expects to save $25,500 in fuel costs and 1900kgs in carbon emissions.

Portacom was able to work with the project manager, Tim Drake, to determine the best site set up. The Aggreko generator operates after 8pm to trickle charge the battery which then operates through the day offering noiseless power. A redundancy system ensures the generator kicks in if the battery’s charge drops below 30%.

It is a win for the project costs, a win for project team’s working environment and a win for the environment.
