With over 140 stores across the North and South Island, New World is one of the largest independent supermarket chains in New Zealand. In response to increasing demand for online, contactless shopping and as a result of limited space, New World has looked to Portacom to provide a modular solution that allows them to process, pack and deliver online orders without compromising on store space.
The unique element of this project was that the Portacom team were required to deliver a ‘one size fits all’ building with plenty of space to accommodate an office area and order processing facility, but also a fully functional cold room to store temperature sensitive groceries, with the whole module required to be ready for delivery as soon as possible. Thinking outside the box, the team were able to repurpose an older classroom module into a fully functional logistics hub and deliver it to New World to allow them to have a dedicated space for their order fulfilment. Only minor changes were required to accommodate their needs including increasing the size of the entry point and adding additional doors to facilitate installation of the cool room facility.
By repurposing and modifying an existing classroom module, the team were able to drastically reduce time and resources required, presenting a solution to the customer that met their requirements. This project in partnership with New World demonstrates the flexibility of Portacom’s modular solutions, and goes to show that by thinking outside the box and working with the customer we are able to deliver customised, fit for purpose logistics facilities in just 6 weeks.
