Portacom delivered a new modular classroom in the South Island, marking our first project of this type in the region. Despite a range of challenges, including tight deadlines, design changes and council requirements, the project was completed ahead of schedule, allowing the school to utilise the building for Term 1.
Portacom successfully delivered a modern, high quality modular classroom for Woodend School, overcoming several challenges to ensure a seamless and efficient installation. With a tight timeframe from contract to install, this project introduced new exterior cladding and marked the first modular classroom of its type in the South Island. Despite these complexities, strategic planning, strong collaboration and expert execution ensured the classroom was delivered on time. Additionally, ground condition concerns required a shift to strip foundations, a challenge that was quickly resolved to maintain project stability and efficiency.
Further complexities arose with fire design compliance and rainwater management, but through proactive coordination with the local council, these were quickly addressed. Fire design issues were resolved with clear communication, while existing drainage infrastructure was successfully tested to manage additional rainwater. Thanks to the strong partnership between Portacom, the council and MoE, the project was completed ahead of schedule with no variations from the contract price. This seamless delivery highlights Portacom’s expertise in providing cost-effective, high quality modular solutions that meet the needs of growing schools - quickly, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
